Rheumatic Fever and the HLA Complex

چکیده
Background Considering the controversial results published in the literature concerning associations between human leukocyte antigens (HLA) and rheumatic fever (RF), the purpose of the present study was to investigate by means of cosegregation analysis the participation of HLA genes in susceptibility to RF. Methods and Resuls The sample reported here was composed of 51 affected and 66 healthy individuals belonging to 22 genetically informative families. The comparison (X2 goodness-of-fit test) of the observed numbers of identical-bydescent (IBD) HLA haplotypes among all affected individuals (siblings, cousins, and uncle/nephew and grandparent/grandchild type of pairs) with the expected ones under the assumption of independent segregation of HLA alleles and the presumptive RF susceptibility gene gave a value of P=.088.

Protective role of HLA-DRB1*11 against juvenile idiopathic arthritis living in North Eastern Iran
Objective(s): Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is one of the most common chronic rheumatic diseases in children. The complex nature of this immune-mediated disease owes itself to several predisposing genes and environmental factors affecting its pathogenesis. Conducted in Iran, this study was originally intended to investigate every possible association between HLA DRB1 alleles and a suscept...

BACKGROUND The incidence of rheumatic heart disease is great in Brazil. We analyzed the distribution of human leukocyte (HLA) antigens in a Brazilian population sample with rheumatic fever or rheumatic heart disease, with the aim of better understanding the mechanisms involved. METHODS AND RESULTS HLA class I (A, B, and C) and class II (DR and DQ) antigen distribution was studied in 40 patien...
متن کاملDetection of immune complexes in acute rheumatic fever and their relationship to HLA-B5.
Employing five radioimmunoassays for immune complexes, the sera of 45 acute and 27 postacute follow-up sera from patients with acute rheumatic fever were examined. All patients experienced actue polyarthritis. Complexes were detected in 89% of acute-phase sera by one assay, 51% by two, 29% by three, and 7% by four. Immune complex values decreased significantly at followup, although some abnorma...
متن کاملA Case Report of Recurrent Rheumatic Fever: Considerations and Comments
Rheumatic fever (RF) is a prevalent healthcare problem in the developing countries. Recurrence of this disorder is often observed in childhood and adolescence. RF can mimic the presentations of infective endocarditis, and clinicians are not really familiar with this issue. Herein, we present a case of recurrent acute rheumatic fever in a patient suspicious of acute bacterial endocarditis due to...
